Love leads to philosophy

When I was a junior in college,Ifell in love with my philosophy professor's daughter. Our love would have been happy and sweet if it were not for her father.
One day,my girlfriend told me that we couldn't see each other any more. You see,her father had pledged that his future son-in-law must ve a philosopher. But for me,my only real passion was football. That meant that her father wouldn't allow me to be his future son-in-law.She told me her father was so stunborn that nobody could change his mind about this.
I didn't know what to do when she left me alone that day.Any person could see how deeply we loved each other. But now,our love had been sentenced to death by her father.
Freezing and lonely,I was depressed.I was desperate and deeply hurt.Iwanted to ask the old fellow some question face to face:I wanted to ask him, what's the real value of studying philosophy?Iwanted to ask him why must his future son-in-law waste his precious youth on this?
As it happened Iwas scheduled to attend his philosophy lecture that afternoon. After class,it would be agood time to ask him questions.
Since many people do not like philosophy, only a few students came to his lecture. But,he still spoke enthusiastically. After 20 minutes, aquarter of the studeents left the classroom.Looking around,I took great pleasuere in his misfortune.
Surprisingly,he ewasn't affected by this and he continued on about Hegel and Marx's philosophical thought. Now and the,he asked the students some questions.Although there was acold reponse,he still seemed cheerful.
Half an hour later, the big classroon was even mor lifeless.I kept on listening because I wanted to enjoy my enemy's embarrassment.I wanted to ask himwhat he thought and felt about hiss gloomy lecture.Looking around again,I found that there were only 12 students left in classroom, just like Jesus' disciples, including me,his betryer,Judas.
While I was preparing to ask him my questions,he took my hands in his tightly and said excitedly, "I am very glad that you like philosophy so much.As you can see, mankind needs philosophy. Ir can tell us how to think, how to love, how to live life.So there must be someone devoted to philosophy. You are one of them.So am I." After these words,he continued his lecture. Then he threw out his chest and declared loudly: "Class is over."
That day my soul had been punched by something sharp and hard and Icouldn't go to sleep that night. The professor'slecture and words were like afilm playing over and over again in my mind. Little by little,I realized how much precious time I had wasteed; My life before was so meaningless. But now,a new passion had entered my life.I must study very hard for my future.
The next morning,I met with my girlffriend. Before Icould tell her about my new passion, she told me that her father had selected a future philosopher for her.A miserable arranged marriage would befall her.Oh my god,who was this appalling man my girlfriend would marry?
After one year,I graduated from college and got married. Before long,I passed the entrande examination to postgraduate study,in philosophy. My tutor,as you might have guessed,is my old progessor and honourable father-in-law.
